Call for Participants: [unruly.bodies]
Do you live with endometriosis? Share your story.
Living with endometriosis can be a complex and complicated experience. From chronic pain, to diagnostic delays, to reproductive health implications, endometriosis is a whole-body condition impacted by layers of systemic barriers.
[unruly.bodies] is a new media art project that visualizes these diverse experiences of living with endometriosis through creative coding and portrait photography.
The project will feature participants’ stories through layers of code poetry, a trace image generated by the code, and a full-colour portrait. The layers depict the complexity of living with this condition, contrasting the rigid binary of code with the messy, unpredictable reality of embodied pain.
What participation involves:
A recorded audio interview discussing your experience living with endometriosis
An in-person portrait session in Toronto with Michele Crockett
Collaboration on translating key parts of your story into code poetry
An honorarium of $250 for participation in the project
Who can participate:
Adults living with endometriosis
Must be based in or able to travel to Toronto, ON for an in-person portrait session in October or November, 2026
Apply by: September 18, 2026
Please note: Space is limited to 5-6 participants due to project funding constraints. Unfortunately, we cannot select all applicants. We are deeply grateful for every submission.
